Vanessa Roxburgh is a student at Malvern School of Art with a passion for the beauty of rust, decay, form, colour and pattern. She is fascinated by all sorts and types of ageing and enjoys stories of nostalgia. This stems from a previous career in broadcasting, where as a director/producer she was interested in communicating people's personal stories. She is now concentrating on photography, especially close up imagery; and exploring colour and collages of pictures as a new way of expressing creativity; the ability to frame a moment in time; and the process of documenting stories in new ways and finding narratives that may also have a wider social context.
Me & My Massey is a final project for the "Disseminating Practice" module of the Diploma in Fine Art & Contemporary Craft at WCG. This has involved creating this website with a number of galleries related to Vanessa's own vintage Massey Ferguson MF 135 Tractor. An object of mechanical beauty, that can still be understood through logic and physics and no matter how rusty and decayed it looks, it is a workhorse with a daily regime. Me & My Massey captures the essence of a collection of decaying farm machinery, with visits to other places of tractor heaven and mechanical and machinery graveyards and resting places.
